FLUORESCEIN STAINING




Fluorescein is a water soluble stain 
that will stain the tear film and any 
disruption of the ocular surface.  It will 
show any breaks in the epithelium and 
be absorbed by cells which have 
damaged membranes.  Using just the 
normal white light of the slit lamp will 
show areas of staining.
